From the first drip to the final repair, we get your roof watertight after any storm.

Storm Damage Roof Repairs

When a southerly change or an east coast low rolls through Sydney, roofs cop lifted tiles, torn flashings, split sheets and blocked valleys all at once. We treat storm damage as two jobs: an immediate make-safe to stop water getting in, then a proper repair once we can see the full picture in daylight. That order matters, because a rushed permanent fix in the wet rarely holds.

What a Sydney storm actually does to a roof

Storms don't cause one neat problem. Driving rain finds the gaps that already existed: a cracked mortar bed, a lifted ridge cap, a tired flashing at the chimney. Wind gets under the leading edge of tiles or sheets and levers them up, while debris smashes brittle terracotta and dents metal. The result is a mix of visible damage and hidden entry points that only show up as ceiling stains days later.

We map the whole roof rather than chasing the one obvious hole. That means checking valleys for scour, ridge capping for movement, flashings for lifting, and the underside of the roof space for daylight and damp timber. Fixing only what you can see from the ground is how the same leak comes back next storm.

Make-safe first, then the real repair

Our first visit is about stopping the water and removing hazards: tarping exposed sections, clearing loose tiles that could slide, and isolating anything near power. We photograph everything for your records and your insurer. We won't try to bed and point ridge capping in pouring rain, because mortar and sealant need dry, stable conditions to cure properly.

Once the weather clears we return to complete the permanent work. Depending on what the storm did, that can mean replacing tiles, re-bedding and re-pointing capping with flexible pointing, renewing flashings, or patching and re-fixing metal sheets. Everything is done to match the existing roof and to Australian Standards.

Why leaks show up days after the storm

Water that enters a roof rarely drips straight down. It tracks along battens, sarking and rafters before it finds a low point in the ceiling, so the stain often appears well away from the actual breach and sometimes after the storm has passed. Insulation soaks up moisture and hides the trail for a while, then releases it. That delay is exactly why we inspect the roof cavity, not just the ceiling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I call before or after I contact my insurer?

Call us straight away. Your priority is stopping further damage, and most policies require you to take reasonable steps to make the property safe. We document everything as we go, so you have dated photos and a written scope ready when you lodge the claim.

Can you do a permanent repair on the same day?

Sometimes, if it's dry and the damage is contained. But bedding, pointing and sealing need dry conditions to cure, so during wet weather we make the roof safe first and return to complete lasting repairs once it clears. A rushed fix in the rain usually fails.

Do you repair both tile and metal roofs after storms?

Yes. Tile roofs typically need cracked tiles replaced and capping re-bedded, while metal roofs need lifted sheets re-fixed, dents assessed and flashings renewed. We work on terracotta, concrete tile, Colorbond and older galvanised roofs across Sydney.

How do I know if the storm caused hidden damage?

Look for fresh ceiling stains, musty smells, sagging plaster or grit in the gutters from broken tiles. Even without those signs, a single lifted cap or flashing can leak in the next downpour, which is why a post-storm inspection is worth doing.
