Emergency Gutter Repairs in Sydney

Clear, refix and repair overflowing, sagging or collapsed gutters before water gets inside.

Emergency Gutter Repairs

When gutters overflow in a heavy Sydney downpour, water sheets down the wall, into the eaves and often straight into the ceiling. In a storm the cause is usually blocked outlets, a sagging or detached gutter, or a downpipe that can't carry the volume. We respond fast to clear blockages, re-secure gutters that have pulled off their brackets and repair splits and rusted sections so the water goes where it should.

Why gutters overflow and fail in storms

The most common storm failure is a blocked outlet or downpipe packed with leaves and debris, so the gutter fills and spills over the back edge into the fascia and eaves. Others include gutters that have sagged out of fall so water pools instead of draining, brackets that have rusted or pulled away, and box gutters that simply can't cope with the volume from a large catchment area.

Rusted-through sections and split joints also open up under the weight of ponding water. Any of these can dump litres of water into your roof space in minutes during a downpour.

Box gutters and overflow risk

Box gutters sit within the roof line and carry big volumes, so when they block or under-size the overflow, water backs up over the internal upstand and into the building. This is a common and serious cause of internal flooding on Sydney homes and commercial roofs. We check the outlet, the fall and whether an overflow provision exists, and clear or repair it so the box gutter drains as designed.

Getting the fall and fixings right

A gutter has to fall gently towards its outlets to drain, and be supported by enough brackets to hold the water load. When we refix a sagging gutter we reset the fall and add or replace brackets so it can't drop again. Splits and rusted joints are cut out and replaced or sealed with a compatible product, and we make sure the downpipe is clear all the way to the stormwater so the fix actually holds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is water coming through my ceiling but the roof looks fine?

Overflowing gutters are a classic cause. When the gutter fills and spills over its back edge, water runs behind the fascia into the eaves and ceiling, even though the roof cover itself is intact. Clearing the blockage and fixing the overflow usually stops it.

Can you fix a gutter in the middle of a storm?

We can clear blockages and re-secure a detached gutter to stop the immediate overflow, which often solves the flooding straight away. Rusted sections and permanent replacements may need calmer, drier conditions, but the make-safe stops water entering your home now.

My gutters are old and rusty. Repair or replace?

If rust is isolated to one joint or short run, a section replacement is fine. But if the guttering is rusting through in multiple places, patching becomes false economy. We'll show you the extent and give you a straight answer on whether repair or replacement makes sense.

What is a box gutter and why is it higher risk?

A box gutter runs within the roof rather than along the edge, carrying large water volumes. If it blocks or lacks adequate overflow, water backs up over the internal wall and floods inside. That makes them a priority to keep clear and correctly sized.
