Water Damage Roof Repairs and Restoration

We fix the leak and repair the damage it left behind -- structure included.

Water Damage Roof Repairs

By the time water damage is visible, the trouble has usually been going on for a while. Beyond the stain there is often wet timber, corroded fixings, sagging battens and ruined insulation. Repairing water damage properly means stopping the leak, assessing what the water has harmed, and restoring the affected structure so it is sound again. We handle both the roof fault and the damage it caused, and we work with insurers when the damage is claimable.

What water damage actually does to a roof

Persistent moisture rots timber battens and rafters, rusts nails and screws, delaminates sarking and soaks insulation until it holds water like a sponge. On the underside of a metal roof, trapped moisture accelerates corrosion. Left long enough, wet timber loses strength and fixings let go, which is how a small leak eventually becomes a structural problem. We assess how far the damage has spread before quoting a repair.

Stopping the source and repairing the structure

Every water-damage repair starts by finding and stopping the leak, because there is no sense restoring timber that is still getting wet. From there we replace damaged battens, treat or replace affected timber, renew corroded fixings and sarking, and remove sodden insulation. Only when the structure is sound and dry do we reinstate the roof covering.

Insurance claims for storm and water damage

A lot of water damage in Sydney follows storms, hail and heavy rain, which may be covered by home insurance. We can document the observed cause, extent and repair cost with clear photos and a written report for you to share with your insurer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if water has damaged the structure, not just the ceiling?

Signs include sagging in the roofline, soft or discoloured timber in the roof cavity, rusty fixings and a musty smell. A ceiling stain is surface-level; structural damage sits above it. We inspect the cavity to tell you whether the water has reached the framing and battens.

Will my insurance cover storm water damage to the roof?

Often it will, particularly for sudden storm or hail damage, though gradual wear is usually excluded. It depends on your policy. We document the cause and extent clearly so your insurer has what they need, and we will give you an honest view of how your claim is likely to be seen.

Do I have to remove wet insulation?

Usually yes. Once insulation is soaked it stays damp for a long time, loses its thermal value and becomes a breeding ground for mould. Drying it out rarely restores it fully, so removing and replacing the affected sections is normally the healthier and more effective option.

Can you do everything or do I need several trades?

We handle the roof and structural roofing repairs and the make-safe work. For internal plaster, painting or major mould remediation you may need a plasterer or specialist, and we will be straight with you about where our work ends and theirs begins.
